Reformatting your MicroSD card into FAT32 ensures that your 1990\retro can store all your beautiful memories without a hitch. This guide will show you how to do that using Rufus on a Windows computer.
⚠️WARNING⚠️ This process will erase any data that is saved on your MicroSD card. Ensure that any data on your card is backed up prior to reformatting.
What You’ll Need:
01 Your MicroSD card (already inserted into the camera)
02 MicroSD card adapter (if needed for your computer)
03 Windows PC
04 Rufus software (Free to download)
How to do it:
1. Download and Install Rufus
Open your web browser and go to the [Rufus website]. Scroll down and click the link to download the latest version of Rufus.
Once downloaded, open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to install it on your computer.
2. Remove the MicroSD Card from Your Camera
Power off your camera. Open the MicroSD card slot, remove the card, and place it in your computer’s MicroSD card slot or use a card adapter if necessary.
3. Open Rufus
Once Rufus is installed, double-click the Rufus icon to open it. You may be prompted to allow Rufus to make changes to your device—click "Yes."
4. Select Your MicroSD Card in Rufus
In the "Device" drop-down menu at the top of the Rufus window, select your MicroSD card from the list. Make sure you choose the correct drive (you can check this in File Explorer if you’re unsure).
By default, your MicroSD is labeled “USB Drive.”
5. Set the Formatting Options
In the "Boot Selection" section, leave it set to "Non bootable."
Under "File System," select FAT32 from the drop-down menu.
Leave the Cluster Size set to "Default" and enter a new name for your card in the "Volume Label" field if you’d like (for example, "Adventure Card" or "Memories").
6. Start the Reformatting Process
Once all the options are set, click Start at the bottom of the Rufus window.
A warning will appear, letting you know that everything on the card will be erased during the formatting process. If you’ve already backed up anything important, click OK to proceed.
7. Wait for Rufus to Complete
Rufus will now reformat your MicroSD card to FAT32. This should only take a few moments. Once it’s done, you’ll see a message saying "READY" at the bottom of the window.
8. Eject Your MicroSD Card Safely
Close Rufus, then open File Explorer. Right-click your MicroSD card under This PC and select Eject to safely remove it from your computer.
9. Reinsert the MicroSD Card into Your Camera
After safely removing the card from your computer, place it back into your 1990’s MicroSD card slot. Power on your camera to make sure it recognizes the newly formatted card.
Your MicroSD card is now formatted, and ready for that next moment. That's all there is to it!
